Aged Care Employee Day

With our Maintenance Officer, David.

On Sunday 7 August, we celebrate Aged Care Employee Day by honouring Australia's residential, home and community aged care workers. This year’s theme #ThanksforCaring recognises everyone involved in caring for older Australians. This year, we asked our wonderful Maintenance Officer, David, to share his story about working at Narangba Aged Care and what it means to him.

What made you want to pursue a career in the aged care sector?

I was working at a company but ended up closing its doors so I had to look for work. I decided to change career as I was working for a welding company and decided that aged care was an industry that I had an interest in.

What do you like most about your role and working at Narangba Aged Care?

The team here at Narangba are so lovely and friendly plus the work is interesting and I thoroughly enjoy the role as Maintenance Officer. I like helping the residents and the Personal Care Assistants so they can have an enjoyable experience while at the home.

What’s the most challenging thing about working in aged care?

One of the challenging things about working in the aged care industry is how quickly things can change on a day-to-day basis. Despite planning for your work, this can change and you have to refocus so that the immediate priority is taken into account. Keeping everyone safe while conducting repairs can sometimes be an immediate challenge.

What is a special memory you have from working at Narangba Aged Care?

The best memories are helping residents with small tasks that make them have an enjoyable day. I like working at Narangba Aged Care as there are a lot of team members that make it a great place to work. We also like to have fun while at work and the residents get involved as well.
