Loneliness in older adults is not only socially isolating but can also have a serious effect on health. Did you know that social isolation is associated with an approximately 50% increased risk of dementia and other medical conditions?
It’s important to realise that loneliness impacts everyone at some stage in their lives, no matter the age. Many seniors don’t realise how lonely they are until their circumstances change and they enter a warm and welcoming community such as Narangba Aged Care.
For resident, Phillipa, living at Narangba Aged Care has meant she has overcome that feeling of loneliness and she finds herself being more social than she ever was at home. With no time to be bored, Phillipa’s active life helps to keep her connected to our internal and external Narangba community.

What do you enjoy most about living at Narangba Aged Care?
I really enjoy my lovely room, it feels like my home now. I also enjoy all the wonderful care from all the staff.
Have you felt less lonely since moving into the community?
I have never really felt lonely, both here and at my previous home, but its’ wonderful to be surrounded by so many residents and lovely staff members, it’s a wonderful community.
Has living at Narangba Aged Care helped increase your socialisation? Have you made some friends since moving in?
Yes definitely, I have made some good friends since moving into Narangba, and I enjoy everyone’s company. I am always happy to smile, wave or chat to other residents too.
Do you have a special memory from when you first arrived at Narangba and what it was that made you feel welcomed?
It was my choice to come live here so I could receive the care I needed. When I first came here, I remember all the staff members and residents made me feel very welcome and I just love it.
How does Narangba Aged Care keep you connected to your family or loved ones?
The staff like to ensure we keep connected with family and friends outside of the home. I often have calls with my daughter, Leah, and she often visits me here too which is always lovely.
